As my brother leaves colossal messes at every turn, we have yet to paint the walls, too afraid that we'll make them beautiful just to see them destroyed. Needless to say, the feeling you get when you walk into my house isn't exactly cozy, but thankfully he got approved for an apartment and will be moving out soon. When the house is nice and clean, it feels a lot more welcoming and relaxing, and I love our corner seat dining table where I can spread out all my books and drawings and never run out of space. The sofas in our living room are really comfortable, and the whole space is grounded by this ginormous heavy coffee table that has drawers for all our blankets and plenty of room for all our candle holders, plus this giant family album I painted the pages of and put together for my mom's birthday, which really makes me feel at home. My framed poster of Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell standing in front of an old painting at Amsterdam Hotel is one of my favorite things in my room, aside from my Ralph Steadman poster from Fear and Loathing and my bookshelf with all my stuff. I used to turn these open storage containers on their sides and use them like bookshelves because they have this cool design on the outside, and now that I finally have a real bookshelf, I'm using them to store all my colored pencils and paints and brushes and towels in one, and all the fabric samples that have been overflowing out of beaten-up bags in my closet in the other. I also have another smaller one up top for all my granite, wood, and tile samples, plus another bag with more. I have a whole shelf dedicated to all my ID magazines, each organized into its own magazine holder, and like a nerd I am extremely pleased with the neatness and order of it all; now my room feels complete and clean. And of course, my little dog Mickey always lifts my spirits like no one else can when I come home and he's all excited to see me with those cute little puppy eyes and wagging tail; he's a sweet little guy!
